Dragons Dominate at Rutgers, Gear Up For Colonial Athletic Association Championships

Piscataway, N.J. – The Drexel men's and women's divers competed at the Rutgers Invitational Saturday afternoon, and tallied eight top-six finishes on the boards.
Sophomore Kate Hynes continued her winning ways by sweeping the diving events with the highest point totals in both the 1- and 3-meter events. Hynes recorded 333.85 points to win the 1-meter dive over Sharon Fish of Rutgers, who was a distant second with a score of 285.60. Drexel's Stephanie Battaglia also performed well on the springboard, recording 247.35 points to earn a fifth-place finish. Hynes and Battaglia also performed well in the 3-meter event, finishing first and sixth, respectively. Hynes earned 369.65 points and Battaglia tallied 272.85.
In the men's competition, senior Brett Molash earned two second-place finishes followed by sophomore Jake Roberson, who placed third in the 1-meter event and sixth in the 3-meter final. Molash was edged by Rutgers' Andre Watson in the 1-meter dive, 374.90-368.75, and in the 3-meter dive, Watson barely defeated Molash, 394.60-391.30. Roberson's 334.80 on the 1-meter board earned him third place, and his score of 302.53 in the 3-meter was good enough for sixth place.
The Dragon divers will take momentum from their weekend performances to the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, which are set to begin Wednesday, Feb. 14, at George Mason. The meet continues through Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Jim McKay Natatorium Aquatic Center.
